A Clinical Study Following Reversal of Sterilization in Women over 40 years of Age

Abstract

|
During the 5 year period from Jan. 1989 to Apr. 1994, the women who underwent reversal of sterilization at an age of >40 years were analyzed. During the study period, a total of women > age 40 underwent reversal of sterilization and 43 cases of
them
were followed up for more than 1 year postoperatively in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, CHA General Hospital.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. The mean age was 41.1% and these 43 procedures amounted to 5.6% of the total number of sterilization reversals(n=764) during the same period in the CHA General Hospital.
2. The mean duration between the operation and the occurrence of the first pregnancy was 7.9 months(range 1 to 19 months).
3. The overall pregnancy rate after tubal reversal was 58.1% and the outcome of the pregnancy was as follows: term pregnancy 46.5%, spontaneous abortion 28%, and ectopic pregnancy 2.3%.
4. According to the method of preceding sterilization, a distinct difference of pregnancy rates in favor of ring sterilization was observed: a 73.3% intrauterine pregnancy rate was achieved after this procedure.
